Do I Need To Use Support Strap To Carry Bike Rack w/ Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24843 on 2011 Mazda 3
Question:
While reviewing the 3 brands of hitches you sell for my new car 2011 Mazda 3 Sport hatchback w/o LED tails lights, I saw that the Curt model info states that if you do not use a secondary support for a bike rack it will void the warranty. Does this apply to the Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch brands as well? Ive never used any extra support on my class III hitch on my light duty truck receiver with the bike rack. Also, the Draw-Tite is a few dollars cheaper than the others. Is it as good a product or is there a reason to one of the more expensive brands? Thank you!

CURT is the only hitch manufacturer that requires that you use a support strap like the CURT Bike Rack Strap, part # 18050, when carrying a bike rack using their hitch.
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24843, would be a great option for a hitch on your 2011 Mazda 3 w/o LED tail lights. All of the hitches we carry are of quality, including Draw-Tite. One reason why the other hitches have a higher price point is that they include a ball mount, pin and clip. The Draw-Tite # 24843 does not include a ball mount, pin or clip, but if you will only be using the hitch for a bike rack, the Draw-Tite hitch would work fine.
The Draw-Tite Hitch # 24843 is a Class I 1-1/4 inch hitch so you will be limited to bike racks that are compatible with 1-1/4 Class I hitches. You will also be limited to carrying 2 bikes. You will want to make sure not to exceed the tongue weight capacity of the hitch or the vehicle as stated in the vehicle owners manual. The weight of the bike rack, plus the weight of the bikes is considered tongue weight.
I have linked instructions for the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24843 and an FAQ on trailer hitch installation tips.
