Ball Mount Recommendation for a 2014 Toyota Sienna to Tow a Boat Trailer Level
Question:
I have a 2014 Toyota Sienna van and want to tow a 16 foot fishing boat. The fishing boat hitch, when level, is 18 inches and the inside top of my 2 inch receiver is 11.25 inches. Id like to use the above hitch for the clearance to open my rear tail gate with the boat attached. If I use the Curtis D-28 4 inch rise, will that keep my fishing boat level?

Since the coupler height on the trailer is 18 inches and the receiver height on the 2014 Toyota Sienna is 11-1/4 inches a ball mount with a 4 inch rise will not be high enough to tow the trailer level. You would need a ball mount with a 6-3/4 inch rise (or something very close) to tow the trailer level.
Let's first make sure we measure things the same way. We measure the receiver height the same as you have done; to the top of the receiver opening. On the trailer side, with the trailer level, measure to the bottom of the coupler.
What you can do is use a longer ball mount with the right amount of rise and the extra length could be enough to still allow you to open the rear hatch. Brophy ball mount # EA80 has 7 inches of rise and measures 15-1/4 inches long overall so it would be your best bet. If you find that you need a different amount of rise let me know and I can make other recommendations.
