RockyMounts SplitRail Compared to Kuat NV 2.0 4-Bike Racks

Question:

Can you compare the Rocky Mounts Split Rail compatibility with the Kuat NV2.0 for a 2015 Sabaru Outback? I am looking to use the rack for 2 bikes primarily but need the capacity for 4 at times for various bike styles including childrens bikes. What is the weight to install of the Rocky Mount and NV2? Is one easier to use i.e. load bikes and add and removed sections to go from 2 to 4 bikes? Can the extra add on trays be installed with the base carrier on the vehicle, so I dont have to lift the entire 4 trays to install on the hitch? Will either or both tilt away to allow access to cargo area with the bikes loaded and unload? Thanks,

One of the biggest differences between the Kuat NV 2.0 4-Bike Platform Rack # NV22G-NA22G and the RockyMounts SplitRail part # RKY11404-4 is going to be the price. The SplitRail is less expensive. It weighs a few lbs less than the NV as well at 76 lbs compared to 86 lbs. So for those reasons I would probably go with the RockyMounts instead. Unless you really want the bike repair stand that's built into the Kuat. The other thing the Kuat wins is stability on the road. If you check out the two test course videos I attached you'll see that the Kuat is noticeable more stable in the hitch than the Rockymounts.

Another option to cut down on price for the Kuat is the NV 2.0 Base part # BA22B-BA02B which doesn't come with the repair stand so it weighs the same as the Rockymounts and gets the costs closer.

They both are right at the same folded clearance too. Kuat has 7 inches of clearance from pin hole to nearest portion of bike rack when folded and Rockymounts has 6-1/2 inch.

Both could have the expanion added or removed with the rack in the hitch as well.
