Choosing Between Kuat Transfer KU64FR and RockyMounts MonoRail Solo RKY10007 Single Bike Racks

Question:

I have a 2019 Mazda cx-5 sport model with a curt 2inch hitch. Im looking for rack, and considering the Kuat Transfer 1 and the Rockymounts Monorail Solo. Have both carbon road bike with carbon rims and aluminum mountain bike with 3inch tires. Area around me is very hilly as is my driveway. Wheelbase of mountain bike is 45. Any suggestions? Significant differences? Thanx for your help,

Either the Kuat Tranfer 1 # KU64FR or the RockyMounts MonoRail Solo 1 # RKY10007 would handle the bikes you describe easily. Both would hold the bikes by the tires, so the fact that the rack won't come into contact with the frame will work well with your Carbon Fiber framed bike as well as the aluminum framed one. Either rack has sufficient room to handle your 45 inch wheelbase mountain bike as well as the 3 inch wide tires. Both racks offer raised shanks for tons of ground clearance, so no problem there. Both offer the ability to add-on capacity if necessary- the Kuat Transfer allows you to use an add-on # KU57FR to carry an additional bike, as does the MonoRail with the # RKY10005. Both racks weigh about 25 lbs.

I think Kuat makes an absolutely outstanding product, and I would never steer anyone away from their products, but there's a few features on the MonoRail Solo that might turn your head that way. The MonoRail Solo offers a 20 lb per bike higher capacity, and can accommodate tire widths up to 5 inches without the need for an adapter accessory like what's needed with the Transfer. The MonoRail also includes locks, while the Transfer offers a lock as an optional extra-cost feature.

I'd have to give the RockyMounts MonoRail a slight edge because of its additional versatility, but honestly you couldn't go wrong either way. If you use the provided links, you can see product demonstration videos for both racks.
