Recommendation For Wire Harness For 2018 Mazda CX-5 And How Best To Install The 12V Power Wire

Question:

The step that gives me pause, and why I haven't ordered the kit, is running the wire to the battery. I don't want to remove all the trim inside or have it dangling under the car. Are the pictures or video of how to route the power wire to the battery? The diagram in the directions is a vague cartoon. I prefer the Mazda OEM method of pulling power from a connector in the back. If that is for an accessory port, it should be 12V and have its own fuse already.

While there may be a power source in the back of your 2018 Mazda CX-5, you will need to run the wire for power to the battery. The Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness With 4-Pole Flat Connector, Item # 118746, is specifically designed to work with your vehicle and the routing of power directly to the battery is the best way per the manufacturer to install it. After running the wire up to the battery, you will need to install the included fuse per instructions.

One of the main reasons for installing the wire from the harness directly to the batter is to bypass the wires of your CX-5. This installation process is to keep your vehicle's wires more secure in case something happens so that they are not impacted.

When running the wire, the best option is to follow existing wire runs as much as possible and stick close to the frame. Avoid heat sources or possible "pinch points". A great way to secure the wires is to use zip ties like those in the Deka Cable Ties Kit, Item # DW05724-10.

I understand wanting an easier and less involved installation. However, it is always best to install vehicle accessories as recommended by the manufacturer so that everything works properly.

If I had pictures or a video to send, I would. Unfortunately your 2018 Mazda CX-5 is very new and we do not have any pictures and have not had an opportunity to complete an installation that we could video.
