How to Dolly Tow a 2014 Kia Sorento

Question:

We are about to buy our first Class A RV and dont really want the expense of purchasing a new car to flat tow when our 2014 Kia Sorento is paid for with very low mileage. Would I tow in neutral and parking brake on or ???

I took a look at the owner's manual for your 2014 Kia Sorento and on pages 6-17 and 6-18 it says that for a 2WD Sorento you will set the ignition switch to the ACC position, place the transaxle shift lever to the N (Neutral) position, and release the parking brake. A 4WD Sorento cannot be dolly towed. I encourage you to check your owner's manual to verify the instructions.

When you compare the pricing of a flat towing setup vs a tow dolly setup it really comes out to about the same price. The only real difference is that your rear tires will get more wear on them than your front tires.

The Roadmaster Tow Dolly # RM-2050-1 that you were looking at is a great option to use. It features self-steering wheels and the option to use electric brakes. It has a weight capacity of 4,250 lbs which will be enough to tow your Sorento.

This tow dolly comes with a 4-Way flat connector for the basic lighting functions, but if you would like to use the electric brakes (which we recommend doing) you will need to cut off that connector and use a 6-Way # PK11604 or 7-Way # PK12706 connector for whichever size you have on your Class A.

Some people like to install magnetic towing lights, like part # TL21RK, on their towed vehicle and tie it in to the tow dolly wiring so that it is easier for those traveling around them to see what is going on.

You may be interested in is the Spare Tire Carrier # RM-2000-7 and a spare tire like part # RM-200330-80 in case of a flat. And if you would like to guard your Sorrento from road debris that your Class A might kick up, the Guardian Rock Guard # RM-4000 and Mounting Bracket # RM-2000-8 can be used.

I have attached some review videos for you to check out for more information.
