Recommendation for Grand Design Imagine 2600RB Porpoising While Using Weight Distribution System
Question:
I have the 5.3 V8 with max towing package pulling my new Grand Design Imagine 2600RB with total weight of right at 6,000 pounds and a tongue weight at right at 600 pounds. The truck has no problem with pulling the trailer, but I am experiencing some porpoising. i use the Eaz-lift R3 Recurve weight distribution system, and I like its ease of use. I am concerned that perhaps I need a stronger rated weight distribution system, or some enhancement to the trucks rear springs, or other. Any suggestions?

Your 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L V8 has a towing capacity of 6,000 lbs. Porpoising can have to do with weight not distributed properly. I recommend you use the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66560 which is rated for 600-1200 lbs total tongue weight. The total tongue weight is not only the loaded trailer tongue weight, but also any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck. This combination needs to be between that 600-1200 lbs. This system will help to distribute your weight better over the frame of your trailer and mitigate that porpoising. You will also need a hitch ball like # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.
If your current system is rated correctly you may just need to make some angle adjustments to get the correct ride, but if your system is maxed out at 600 lb tongue weight, you will definitely need a different system.
