Why Dont 2,000 Lb Trailer Axles Comes with a Brake Mounting Flange

Question:

Hello, I’ve been searching a lot for this and can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. I’m trying to find a 2000lb axle with a 58” spring Center that has trailer brake flanges. It’s for a 5x8 trailer that I want to tow with a small vehicle and need brakes. I know I could have brake flanges welded on but it would be much easier if I could by it already welded. Just curious if there is a company that sells them ready to go. Thank you!

A 2,000 lb trailer axle like the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam part # T20BTR-7258 is not going to come equipped from the manufacturer with a brake mounting flange because of the weight of the trailer it is designed to be used on. However, most qualified welders can add the brake mounting flange part # 4-34 for a very small fee.

The Dexter Trailer Axle has a 2,000 lb weight capacity, 58" spring center, and 72" hub face length. It uses a L44649 bearing on both the inner and outer seats. Once the brake mounting flange is welded to the axle you can then use part # AKEBRK-2 for the braking assemblies and part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K for the hub/drum.

In order to complete your electric brake setup you will also need trailer wiring like part # HS381-9000, a breakaway kit like part # 20099, and a brake controller like part # 90885. I have attached a review video on all of the above items for you as well.
