Recommended 7-Way Wiring for 1999 Ford F-350 Diesel Without Any Trailer Wiring Harness

Question:

Hi! I purchased part #118243 to be able to use the brakes on my new trailer. I have a 1999 Ford F-350 XLT short box 4x4 diesel. My problem is, there is NO plug of any kind on the trucks wiring harness. NOW what the devil do I do? Do you have the necessary plug, or where can I get one? Thanks

The Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, 7-Way (Super Duty) # 118243 is for vehicles that had a factory 4-way connector, so the harness was present near the spare tire. Since you have no harness, you will need to first add the hardwired 4-way # 18252 which is easy to install. This will give you the 4-way flat trailer connector and then you will use # ETBC7 to add the 7-way connecting the other functions. This kit will utilize your new 4-way flat and then give you the wire, circuit breakers and connections needed to add the reverse, 12V power, and brake controller output features.

Finally, you will want to add a brake controller like # 90195 or # 90885 that will be hardwired with the # ETBC7 kit.
