Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2005 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
My daughter has a 2005 4Runner - not sure of the model. She recently purchased a boat and then we discovered that the wiring connectors which go to the two part had been comnpletely eroded away and therefore we cannot get juice to work the lights on her boat when it is being towed. I understand that she may need to replace the wiring harness - my queston is - how can I kow for sure that I have aordered the right one. The two package I am certain is a OME and I know that I could probably go to the dealership, but I often have found that their parices are much higher than what I could order on line - perhaps even through you. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks PS. Is replacing the harness a huge task and is there someplace where I could get a wiring diagram?

If the 2005 Toyota 4Runner came with a factory installed 7-way trailer connector, there are several universal replacement connectors that can be installed. I have included a link to the available options for you to view.
If you are replacing a 4-Way, the correct wiring harness is # 119178KIT. Installation of this wiring harness is not difficult. It comes with a circuit tester which will be needed to determine the wiring functions behind the tail lights.
The white wire on the harness is ground and it will connect to a bare metal surface. The yellow wire is for left turn signal. The brown wire is for running lights, and the red wire is for brake lights. The green wire will be routed to the passenger side tail light and connect to the right turn signal wire. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation. Please note that if the vehicle has LED taillights, this harness will not work.
