Troubleshooting 7-Way Trailer Connection Wiring on 2017 Nissan Frontier

Question:

I recently installed a Curt brake controller and 7 way plug on my 2017 Nissan Frontier. When the vehicle is started pin #2trailer brakes is presenting 14.52 volts which locks the trailer brakes. I did reuse the relays from the 4-way flat connector that I had previously installed.

In your 2017 Nissan Frontier, the Curt brake controller should be installed using the custom wiring adapter # C51382. This should work correctly to give you the proper wiring within your cab. Then you will use the Curt # C56226 or the Tekonsha # 118266 to get the correct 7-way. If you have done this even using the previous relays, check your trailer connection for functions using the attached photo and a circuit tester like # PTW2993.

It sounds like the trailer may be mis-wired and needs to be tested if the 7-way on your vehicle is correct. I've attached a photo to assist with this and have attached an article to assist as well. You can test the trailer wiring using a battery to connect the negative terminal to ground and then positive to test each function.

Let me know if you need further troubleshooting assistance.

Hi I recently purchased a Curt triflex and installed it in my 2018 Nissan Frontier and all I am getting is a flashing 2.0. I’ve checked and reconnect every wire and trailer wire and it’s still remains flashing with no brakes. Please help

I would check the 7-Way connectors (both on the Frontier and trailer) and look for any corrosion or debris built up inside the pins, cleaning out as needed. Sometimes corrosion can cause the brake controller to sense a constant power draw, which could be what's causing the "2.0" to flash at all times. You can also try to simply unplug the Triflex from power, let it sit a bit, and and then plug it back in to reset it. Let me know what you find and we can go from there (if needed).
