How to Activate Aux Circuit on 1998 Chevrolet Suburban 7-Way Connector
Question:
I have a 1998 K2500 Chevy Suburban. I have the 7 way plug installed in the back and everything except the center aux. pin is hooked up. I recently bought a new trailer with a 6k winch and battery installed. The salesman informed me that the battery charge is maintained through the center aux pin and that I would need to hook it up. Is there a recommended wire gauge and fuse for this setup?

In order to activate the aux circuit on your Suburban's 7-Way, you will just need to run 12 gauge wire like # 12-1-1 (sold by the foot) from the pin up to the positive battery terminal in the vehicle via a 40 amp circuit breaker # 9510.
Keep in mind that this will only provide a maintenance charge for the trailer battery while the vehicle is running. If you are needing to charge the battery up from a depleted state, you will want an AC to DC battery charger like the CTEK MULTI US 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger # CTEK56353. You can use this to fully charge the battery before towing, then use the aux circuit on the vehicle 7-Way to help maintain the charge while you are out.
