Maximum Towing Capacity of a 2017 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Engine

Question:

I have a 2017 Ford xlt 4x4 crew cab 5 1/2 foot box with the larger ecoboost engine. Can I safely tow a 5th wheel camper?

To determine the maximum trailer weight you can tow with your 2017 Ford F-150 you will need to find both the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) and the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of your truck. This can all be found on the information tag located inside the driver door jamb. If you subtract the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of your truck from the (GCWR) that will give you the maximum Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) you can safely tow.

According to Ford's Trailer Towing Guide, the maximum towing capacity of your 2017 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine is 12,200 lbs. As long as your 5th wheel trailer does not exceed this capacity then you can safely tow with it.

If you do not already have a 5th wheel hitch then I recommend using the Reese 20K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30081 with the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Installation Kit part # RP56034-53. Since you have a 5-1/2' bed you will also need to use a Sidewinder. In order to recommend the correct Sidewinder I would need to know the make and model of your current pin box or the distance between the mounting holes. I have attached an article that will walk you through measuring the mounting holes on your pin box if you cannot find the make and model.

I have also attached selection of our Sidewinder pin boxes for you
