Recommendation For Connecting Tekonsha Brake Controller To 2006 Toyota Tacoma w/Factory Tow Package
Question:
I purchased the Tekonsha brake controller with the wiring plugs for a 2006 Tacoma which I plugged in under the dash, my Toyota has the tow packages but there is only a plug in the rear for the 4 way flat for lights, is there another connection in the rear for the trailer brake wires? if not how do I make the brake wire connections?

The Tekonsha brake controller family is a great product for your needs. To fully install the brake controller, you will need to adapt your 4-Way Connector to a 7-Way Connector. You can complete your install with Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7. General installation instructions are:
1. Find suitable location to mount 7-Way connector.
2. Plug 4-pole adapter coming out of 7-Way connector in your vehicle's 4-pole trailer connector.
3. Ground 7-way connector by screwing white wire into frame of vehicle.
4 Gently cut open duplex/two wire cable and separate wires inside. Attach the white wire from duplex cable to brakes wire (blue) and black wire from duplex cable to power wire (black) of 7-Way trailer connector.
5. Run the duplex cable under your vehicle to the engine compartment.
6. Connect duplex cable (power and brakes wires from 7-way connector) to power and brakes wire of your vehicle.
7. Run brake wire (white wire of duplex cable) through firewall and connect to blue wire coming out of brake controller to it.
8. Finish wiring and mounting brake controller inside the cab.
I have provided links for more information and an installation video for a 2009 Toyota Tacoma.
