Can 42 Inch Long Coiled Safety Cables be Used in Place of 30 Inch Long Chains

My vintage travel trailer has a very short tongue. My existing chains are only 30 inches long. Can I use a 42 inch long cable or will it be too long? I would like to have the cables.

Since the Curt safety cables # C80176 are coiled the extra length will not be a problem. The coiled design will keep them off of the ground! I have linked a video review below of these cables for you.

Yes, it is perfectly fine to use a bolt to attach the safety chains of your trailer. I would recommend taking the chains to your local hardware store and getting the largest diameter Grade 8 bolt that will fit into the chain links.

We have some 40 inch cables from Dutton-Lainson #DL20119. These are the shortest safety cables that we have. We do have shorter safety chains; the shortest is #2118-605-04 at 27 inches. I have linked the safety chains and cables for you.
