Can I Use Safety Cables Instead of Safety Chains to Tow a 7300 lb Trailer
Question:
I am looking to replace the safety chains on my 7300 lb GVWR travel trailer. Would the Curt C80176 cables with a minimum break force of 7500 lbs be suitable, or should I move up to a stronger cable? How does the cable strength compare to that of a chain?

You can use safety cables instead of chains if your trailer is under the weight rating of the cable. The safety cables are made from nylon coated steel. I do not recommend using the Curt 7500 lb rated safety cable part # C80176 because that would be cutting it pretty close with the weight of your trailer.
I recommend Blue Ox Hook Safety cables part # BX88197 that are rated for 10,000 lbs. The higher up you go in weight rating with safety cables the longer the cables get. The Blue Ox cables are coiled so they stay off of the ground when towing the trailer but are quit a bit more expensive.
If you want to go with safety chains instead, I recommend Buyers chain part # 337B03835SC which is rated for 10,000 lbs. There is not a safety chain or cable rated higher then 7500 lbs but below 10,000 lbs at this time.
