Recommended Tires with Load Range G for 2013 Keystone Montana 3402RL Trailer
Question:
I own a 2013 Montana 3402 RL. The dry weight is 12900lbs. I have had 5 blowouts on the trailer. I check the tire pressure before driving. Max psi says 80. I was only putting in 74 pounds in before my excursions. Is that the reason for my blowouts? I was always concerned that the tires heat up when I am driving and the psi would exceed 80 when I drove. When I left the dealership after my purchase they didnt put in the 80psi, so I thought I was making the right choice. After looking at the trailer weight, I thought it is possible that the Load Range E tires were being maxd out. especially if my tanks were full and my supplies. Would it be wise to switch to a Load Range F? Or is the psi my problem? Thank you for your help.

You should always inflate to the max psi when cold (prior to your trip). Yes the psi will increase as the tires heat up from road friction and the heat of the day, but this is accounted for. If you were way low on tire pressure it could be the cause of blowouts, and 6 lbs light will definitely be a factor, but I would assume it has more to do with your loaded weight and full tanks. The load range E would be maxed out with a loaded trailer based on the weight.
I recommend upgrading to the load range F for a ply rating of 12 or even G for a ply rating of 14. This will help give you that added strength to your tires.
I recommend the Westlake ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range G # LHWL410 which has the same load rating, a speed rating max of 75 mph, but also has the best warranty in the industry. They have a 5 year warranty on the tires and a 2 year roadside assistance 24/7 in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. This will give that extra peace of mind as I'm sure with 5 blowouts you are ready to let someone else handle the repair on the side of the road.
