Surco Roof Cargo Basket for a 2016 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Which model will span the length and width of this truck? Will i need to add additional holes to the vehicle to install? Currently, it has the stock rack.

In order to use any roof top cargo basket, you'll have to use a set of crossbars to support the basket. I've attached a list of all possible racks for the 2016 Toyota 4Runner, but I have a recommendation based on your goals.

First, you'll want to verify the roof capacity of your vehicle in your owner's manual. According to my research the 2016 Toyota 4Runner has a roof capacity of 120lbs. The entire weight of your loaded cargo, the roof basket and the rails needs to be less than 120lbs to avoid risking damage to your vehicle's roof.

For your crossbars, You'll want to go a little longer than your basket so that you can employ the roof basket to its fullest potential with tie downs and cargo nets.

I recommend the Malone SteelTop Roof Rack, part # MPG202, an all in one kit that contains the feet and crossbars that will mount directly onto your factory roof rails.

You will want to take a measurement at this point to ensure your best fit. You will want to measure from the furthest forward point that your crossbars can go, and all the way back to any possible obstruction taller than your factory rails or the line where your roof meets your rear hatch. This will give you the maximum length of your roof basket without interfering with your rear hatch.

Finally, you will need the Round/Square Crossbar Fit Kit, part # MUBK, to correctly fit the basket to your crossbars.

I've included video of the roof rack being installed so you can see what is involved in doing so.
