Adding a trailer hitch receiver like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13329 that bolts on to the frame of your 2017 Kia Niro will not void your warranty from Kia. You are covered under federal law. Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the problem in question.

If you will be using this hitch for towing or lighted accessories, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56376 which will plug into your factory wiring harness located in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove the trunk floor coverings, storage trays, rear scuff panel, and side trim panels to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery. This too will not alter your factory wiring and will not overload your vehicle's electrical system because it is powered directly by your vehicle battery.

For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 7.5K - Black # BWTS10038B. This will give you an adjustable mount to tow multiple trailers level. It also has two integrated hitch balls to fit a 2 inch coupler or a 1-7/8 inch coupler. This ball mount has a really nice and clean looking stow away option that will protect your shins when not in use. I recommend using a hitch lock like # BX8858 to protect your investment.
