When I went to put my rack in the hitch, I found I couldnt get it tight because the nut inside the tube is loose. Can that be repaired if I take it out, or should I just buy the $12 kit?

If the nut is stripped inside the anti-rattle insert that is included in the Replacement Hitch Bolt, Nut and Clip for BigHorn 4 Bike Carrier # Y8780022 then you will need to purchase a new kit. Anytime there is a replacement option for equipment that is stripped out it is best to go ahead and replace it to avoid any damage.

I checked with Yakima and for the Exo Swingbase part #Y34VR the correct replacement hitch pin bolt is the part #Y52FR.
