Dimension of Usable Pin Length on Yakima Replacement Bolt for Use in Class 5 2-1/2 Hitch

Question:

I want to lock and anti-rattle a 2inch hitch extension in the 2 1/2inch hitch opening of my 1-ton chevy truck. I will use the reducer which takes the 2 1/2inch opening down to 2, and then the hitch extension and hopefully use this hitch bolt kit. The outside dimension of the 2 1/2inch hitch opening is 3, so Im wondering if the bolt in this kit is long enough to go all the way through and then provide the additional needed length to put the Yakima lock on the end .... so the bolt shank needs to be 3inch plus another 3/4inch to 1inch for the lock ... right? Is this bolt long enough? Exactly how long is the bolt shank?

Good news! I was able to go out to the warehouse and measure the pin that is included in the Replacement Hitch Bolt kit # Y8780022 and found that when placed in the lock you will have 3.66 inches of pin length between the lock and the head of the bolt.

According to your measurements this lock will make it through the 3 inch span of the 2-1/2 inch hitch and still have plenty of room for the lock. The lock is the black part on the end of the pin in the photo I've attached to this page show you the distance I measured with a set of digital calipers for the most accurate measurement.

I have linked the Yakima part to this page for your convenience.
