Weight Distribution Recommendation for Trailer with 525 lb Max Tongue Weight

Question:

Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW Item # RP66083. Considering the Strait-line for use with my 20foot TT , max total trailer weight is 3500 with a 3inch frame. Dry tongue weight is 290 max is 525. Plus whatever I put at the end of the bed. Towing with a 2016 silverado CC. Can I use this system, are there others that will work with the 3foot frame?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

If you know your tongue weight is going to be higher than 400 lbs when loaded including the weight of any cargo behind the vehicle rear axle the # RP66083 will be a great choice. You said the max tongue weight is 525 lbs. If that's where you think you'll end up that would work well with this kit.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.

You mentioned a 3 inch frame. If that means you have a 3 inch wide trailer frame you'd need the bolt on brackets part # RP58305 which attach to the sides of the frame. The included hardware with the Strait Line systems can only fit frames up to 2-1/4 inches wide.
