Curt Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 525 lbs of Tongue Weight

Question:

I am looking to purchase a travel trailer with a dry weight of 4800# and a tongue weight of 525. Is the Curt Truetrack 10,000#, 1000 # tw over kill for this size trailer? Im towing with a 2014 Silverado 1500. Any help, information, product suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. Ive towed many boats, utility, small trailers, but this would be the heaviest and longest trailer for me. Thanks much.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

If your loaded tongue weight is going to be 525 lbs I wouldn't go with the Curt TruTrack part # C17500 as that will be overkill and will give you a pretty harsh ride. If your loaded tongue weight ends up being between 800 and 1,000 lbs this would be a great option.

If you do end up around 525 lbs then instead you would want the Equalizer # EQ37060ET which has a tongue weight range of up to 600 lbs.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
