Options for Repairing or Replacing Damaged Electric Drum Brake Magnet Leads
Question:
I suspect I have a short in my trailer brake system. There is a break in the wire about a 1/4 inch from the back of the brake drum. Is lt possible to splice that wire from the inside of the drum and tie into the system to get this bad piece out.

You may be able to repair/replace the damaged magnet wire from your trailer's electric brake if you can get access to it. You may have to remove the wheel and hub to get access to the magnet wires to allow you to splice in a length of new 10-gauge wire like # 10-1-1 using a butt connector like # 05732-2. Another option is using Liquid Electrical Tape # SWC50122 but new wire is the better long-term fix.
Another option is replacing the entire magnet, which will include new wire leads. On the linked page you can see all replacement magnets for electric drum brakes. Match up the new magnet based on axle weight rating and size. Either wire can be used as ground or hot since the magnet leads are not polarized.
