How to Repair Sheared Brake Wires on Magnet of AxleTek 10 Brake Assembly

Question:

I have a small Riverside retro travel trailer that uses axle tech 10 gg brakes. The line that connects to the outside of the brake sheared off. My guess is that the loop was too short? Anyway there is essentially no wire coming out of the brake beyond the grommet in the wall of the brake housing. My question is can I splice wire with a butt connector inside the brake to restore the length of wire coming out of the brake to connect with the rest of the trailer wiring? Or do I need to replace the brake?

As long as there is still a bit of wire still attached to the brake magnet on your # AKEBRK-35-SA, you can use a butt connector like the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector # DW05745-5 to connect a jumper wire from the sheared off end to the brake wire on your trailer. Brake wires are typically 12 gauge wire and if you need a jacketed 12 gauge 2 wire you can use the # 12-2-1 which is sold by the foot and has the positive and negative wire jacketed together.

If the wire has been completely sheared off to where there is nothing left on the magnet, you won't need to replace the complete brake assembly. Instead, you'll just need to replace the magnet with the # AKBRKR-M10 which is compatible with your 10" AxleTek brake assemblies.
