Can Dutton-Lainson Electric Trailer Winch be Used with a 6,500 Pound Boat

Question:

Im interested in the DL25215 to load a 6500lb max 25foot pilot house on a wood bunk trailer with poly slicker covers. Ive noticed the Dutton-Lainston makes a 4500lb DC model which replaces the strap with a steel cable. Would that winch be a better option for this application?

Expert Reply:

As long as the winch is rated high enough to for your application it is safe to use. With that being said, if it's over rated that can improve the performance and longevity of the winch itself. For example, if you're always running it at its maximum capacity it won't last as long as a higher rated winch being used at 75 percent of its max capacity.

The Dutton-Lainson # DL25215 is rated to pull a 9,000 pound boat onto a trailer
