Winch Recommendation for Trailer that Weighs 11,000 lbs

Question:

I need a recommendation for a winch for a boat trailer. The trailer weighs about 2300 and the boat weighs around 11,000 loaded. It’s a bunk style trailer without rollers. Thanks.

Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with roughly half the capacity as the weight of the boat. With good rollers and a short winching distance the ratio increases to 3 to 1, but with long winching distances and wooden bunks like what you currently have the ratio is 1 to 1.

The only option we have rated high enough would be the Dutton Lainson electric winch part # DL25215 which has a 9,000 lb capacity. Nothing else we offer for a boat trailer comes close to being rated high enough.
