Recommended Weight Distribution System For 2011 Tacoma Pulling Trailer Weight Of 5900-6200 lbs

Question:

I have a 2011 Tacoma, V6 see image. I am towing a car hauler with a jeep on it. The loaded trailer weight is anywhere between 5900 and 6200 lbs.. Will the C17500 work with this set up? I realize the tongue weight may be a little light for the hitch, but I like the design and would like to use it if I can.

The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # C17500 is probably a good fit for your 2011 Tacoma and trailer with Jeep.

For a weight distribution system, you want to use the loaded tongue weight (usually 10-15% of the total weight) along with any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck to get the total tongue weight rating. If I go with the 15% number and let that include any cargo in your truck behind the rear axle, then this is a great system for you with the total tongue weight range between 800 and 1000 lbs.

For a system with a wider range, I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 10K GTW, 1K TW # RP66559. This will give you a range of 500 to 1000 lbs which will help if you transport the trailer without the Jeep loaded as well as will handle sway a little better with the automotive grade friction pads integrated into the system.

With either system you will need a hitch ball like # 19286 for 2-5/16 inch ball or # A-90 for a 2 inch ball.
