5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab

Question:

Will this 5th wheel hitch fit in a 2010 Ram 1500 CC? I only move the trailer twice a year. Thanks

A 5th wheel trailer hitch is not necessarily vehicle specific but the installation kits are. You can use a Reese or Curt installation kit with the Reese Hitch, # RP30051.

I recommend a custom installation kit because the estimated installation time is much lower (2.5 hours or less) compared to a universal kit (5 hours). Since you have a crew cab model, I recommend the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, # C16422-204. I have included a link to the installation details for reference.

If you want to keep the hitch and installation kit the same, you can use Curt E5 16K Fifth Wheel Trailer hitch with R5 Roller, # 16516.

You will also want to measure for clearance to make sure you will be able to safely make 90 degree turns. To start, the center of the hitch pin jaws will be 1-1/2 inches forward of the centerline of the rear axle. Measure from that point to the cab of the truck (measurement A). Add 12 inches for the slider travel distance to measurement A.

Next measure the width of the 5th wheel trailer overhang and divide by 2 (measurement B). Take measurement A (plus the 12 inches) and subtract from it measurement B to get the amount of clearance you will have. You will need at least 4 inches of clearance to safely make 90 degree turns.
