Recommended Trailer Hitch and Adapter for 2013 Toyota Camry

Question:

Is there any 2inch receivers instead of 1 1/4inch for a 2013 Toyota Camry? I would prefer to be able to interchange my accessories with my Jeeps 2inch receiver. If using the adapter to make it a 2inch receiver still stable?

The trailer hitches that are available for your 2013 Toyota Camry are Class II hitches with 1-1/4 inch receiver openings. This is most likely because the Camry simply does not have the towing or tongue weight capacity that a higher rated trailer hitch (and larger receiver opening) will provide.

I recommend installing the Draw-Tite Class II Frame Receiver Hitch # 36540 over the Curt model that is also confirmed to fit your vehicle. This is because unlike Curt, Draw-Tite does not require you to use stabilizing straps like # 18050 for non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers. The installation process on the Draw-Tite is also slightly easier. I have attached the installation details for you to check out.

Using a hitch adapter like the Brophy # HTAD to convert the 1-1/4 receiver to a 2 inch opening for use with your hitch-mounted accessories is safe to use. However, you will need to keep in mind that when using this or any similar adapter, the tongue weight capacity of the hitch will be reduced by 50%. This means that the 300 pound tongue weight capacity on the Draw-Tite trailer hitch will be reduced to 150 pounds when using the adapter. As long as you stay under this reduced capacity with the accessory and whatever you have loaded onto it, an adapter is a great solution.

I have included a short demonstration video on this adapter just so you can see exactly how it will install and work with your accessories.
