Does Black Wire of 7-Way Adapter have to be Ran to Install Brake Controller
Question:
Customer service I have a Curt C56261 4 pole flat Trailer Connector that I installed on a 2017 Toyota Sienna XLT, it requires power from the battery to the convertor box. I also have a Curt C57674 Adapter 4 pole to 7 pole and a Tekonsha Voyager trailer brake controller Item#39510. I did run a power wire to the brake controller, however the instructions also call for a power wire from the black wire of the 4 pole to 7 pole adapter. Do I need to run that wire, since there is already a power supply on the black wire at the power convertor? I don’t want to back feed the power convertor but want to make sure there is adequate power to the brakes. Thanks for your help

Expert Reply:
The black wire of the 7-way that you are asking about is for the 12 volt accessory circuit of the trailer connector. This circuit is not required for installing a brake controller so if you have no need for an aux power circuit then you would not need to connect this wire to the battery.
I attached a diagram for how brake controllers install typically for you to check out as well.
