Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Towing Components For 2005 Chrysler Town And Country
Question:
I need to buy a 2inch receiver for a 2005 Town and Country without Stow and Go and a 60inch Cargo Basket to go with it. I also have a 2008 Honda Fit. It has a 1 1/4inch receiver on it. I would like the cargo basket to work with both vehicles. Is it better to buy a Cargo Basket with 1 1/4inch and some kind of adapter 2inch adapter or a 2inch Cargo Basket and a 1 1/4inch adapter. Seems like a 1 1/4inch to 2inch adapter would create a weak point that a 2inch to 1 1/4inch wouldnt. Any suggestions on which route to go? Suggestions for a good receiver for the van? Itll eventaully be towing a canned ham style camper.

For your 2005 Chrysler Town and Country without stow and go, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13362. This will give you an easy to install hitch with a 2 inch opening for your accessories. Since you will eventually be towing with this van, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118300 that will connect to factory plugs behind your tail lights.
For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 3" Drop, 3-1/2" Rise - 7.5K - Black # BWTS10035B. This gives you the ability to adjust for level transport of most trailers. It also has two integrated hitch ball options of 2 inch and 1-7/8 inch. It has a nice clean look when not in use due to its stowable feature that also will protect your shins when loading and unloading cargo. I recommend the hitch lock # e98882 to protect your investment.
For your cargo carrier, I recommend the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" Hitches - Steel - 300 lbs # 63155 which is compatible with the Class I hitch on your 2008 Honda Fit. This is the largest carrier we have that is compatible with the trailer hitch receiver on that vehicle.
For your 2 inch receiver, I recommend the MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2" to 1-1/4" Hitch - 11" Long # MT70033 which will adapt your cargo carrier, but will reduce your tongue weight capacity by 50%. There is one adapter we carry that doesn't reduce this weight and it is the Brophy Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HT02.
