Hollywood Bike Rack and Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver for 2018 Mazda CX-5

Question:

I will be an occasional user carrying my bike and my two daughters bikes. I also live in a city and plan to take my rack off the car when not in use - therefore I want it to be relatively easy to get the rack off and carry it inside for storage. I was all set on a hanging rack and then the Hollywood platform popped up as an option. I had originally ruled out platform due to price - but would consider this. However it looks heavy and unwieldy. Should I go back to focus on hanging? I am buying a hitch at the same time so need to decide for Class 2 vs 3. thank you.

I will be glad to help you set up your 2018 Mazda CX-5 for transporting you and your daughters' bikes. For ease and convenience of use I recommend going with a platform style receiver mounted bike rack. The Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 4 Bikes item # HR4000 you referenced would be perfect for your application. It is light weight and easily storable. I have linked a review video of this bike rack on a 2020 Mazda CX-5 so you can get a good idea of what it will look like on your vehicle. I have also attached a picture of the Hollywood Bike Rack being stored on a wall. The rack weighs 42 lbs and can carry 4 bikes with a maximum weight of 35 lbs each.

For a hitch receiver I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver item # 76138. This is a custom fit receiver that is designed specifically for your Mazda CX-5 that will require no drilling into your frame. It is a class III receiver with a 675 lbs tongue weight which will be more than enough to support the Hollywood Racks Bike Rack item # HR4000. I have attached a picture to show you what this hitch will look like installed.
