Recommended Trailer Hitch for Best Ground Clearance on 2017 Toyota Sienna
Question:
I can use either the 1 1/4in or the 2 in receiver for my purposes. But which specific hitch would detract the least from the ground clearance of my vehicle? I see your recommendation for the Draw-Tite square frame for class III hitches, but then there is the extra 3/4 on the hitch, vs the class II. So of them all? Thank you.

Because of the way it mounts to the vehicle frame, the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76112 is actually going to have the best ground clearance when compared to the other trailer hitches confirmed to fit your 2017 Toyota Sienna, including the 1-1/4 inch options. That is because this particular hitch installs higher than the alternatives to provide a hidden look with the cross tube, and this in turn will offer better ground clearance. I have attached a demonstration video on a 2015 Sienna so you can get a better idea as to how this installs on the vehicle.
Even if you never plan on reaching the weight capacities of a Class III trailer hitch, the 2 inch receiver opening is simply going to offer a much larger selection of hitch-mounted accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers to choose from. This is why when one is available for a vehicle, I always like to recommend a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver over a 1-1/4 inch alternative.
If you plan on doing any towing, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118648 if your Sienna is not the SE model to install a 4-way connector to power your trailer's signal lights. The T-One connector will simply plug into existing wiring behind the side tail lights on your vehicle. If you do have the SE model, you will instead use # 118498.
For a ball mount, I recommend the Curt Class III Ball Mount with a 2 inch Drop # C45036. I have also attached an article that explains how to determine the best ball mount for your setup as well as a link that will take you to our available selection.
