Difference Between 72 inch Dexter Axles 204401-EZ-72 and 20545I-EZ-72-10
Question:
What is the difference between the 204401-EZ-72, and the 20545I-EZ-72-10? It appears that it is only a 4 x 4 hub, 204401, 8-13inch wheels and 20545I which has 4 1/2 on 5, but only up to a 12inch wheel? Then there is the 20545I-72-15 with 12-15inch wheels, but not an EZ lube, and loses 200lb in weight. I am having to replace a boat trailer axle with 12inch wheels, and would like to increase capacities by using the 13inch wheels if possible. In the video, I noticed that you do not include a washer behind the castle nut. What holds the outer bearing in place? Thanks

The difference is the bolt pattern of the hubs that either axle comes with. The part # 20545I-EZ-72-10 comes with idler hubs that have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern and part # 20440I-EZ-72 comes with hubs with the bolt pattern 4 on 4 inch.
The bearing fits pretty snugly in the hub and the seal acts to slightly hold it in as well.
