Is a Class II or Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver Recommended for a 2016 Nissan Rogue

Question:

Hi, is a class 3 hitch overkill for a 2016 nissan rogue. At the moment i just need a hitch to carry my 2 bike and maybe a u haul trailer at some point. Which would you suggest be my best bet? Thank you

Rarely would I say a Class III hitch is overkill. Even if it technically is.

A Class III hitch is much more versatile with accessories than a Class I or II. It's a lot easier to find things to fit the 2 inch receiver than the 1-1/4 inch. Also, if you have an accessory that doesn't fit the hitch you have it's easier to get a reducer for a lower rated accessory than an expander for a higher rated one. If it's rated higher you then have to worry about whether your hitch has the capacity.

For your 2016 Nissan Rogue I suggest the Draw-Tite # 75902. It's a bolt-on Class III hitch that doesn't require any drilling. I've linked an install video for you.

If your bike rack only fits a 1-1/4 inch receiver you can use the Brophy Reducer # HT02 with the Class III Draw-Tite.

Since you said you may be towing at some point I suggest # 118480 for a wiring harness. This will provide the 4-way trailer connector you'll need to power a trailer's lights.

I've also linked our selection of 2 inch ball mounts for you, as well as an article to help you determine which one you need based on the rise or drop of a trailer you might be towing.
