Will an Offset 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter Provide Turning Clearance to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2015 F350 with a short bed, do I need the offset adaptor or is that just for convenience? I pull regular gooseneck trailers without difficulty

The offset 5th wheel to gooseneck adapters such as # CAB-C5GX1216 won't give you any extra clearance for turning. What it does is provide more distance between the back of the truck and the trailer. It doesn't change the pivot point of the trailer so clearance can still be an issue. Also this adapter does not work with the Ford prep package because of the plastic latch on top of the ball. There is a nut inside adapter # CAB-C5GX1216 that tears up the latch on the ball.

With a 5th wheel trailer, unless it is narrow enough or designed specifically to be towed by a short bed truck, you will likely run into clearance issues. If your 2015 Ford F-350 has the 4 factory pucks for a 5th wheel hitch I recommend Demco HiJacker # DM8550024 for 18K or # DM8550038 for 21K. Each of these hitches has 14 inches of travel and slide automatically. A slider 5th wheel hitch actually moves the pivot point of the trailer which is why they will provide better turning clearance.

If you happen to have a B&W Turnover Ball gooseneck hitch then you could use B&W Companion # BWRVK3400.

There isn't a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter that moves the pivot point of the trailer more than a couple of inches and for most 5th wheel trailers you will need much more than what the adapters offer.
