Brake Controller Compatibility with EOH Trailer Brake Actuators
Question:
Is there an issue with Ford Ranger models using Hydastar xl trailer brakes? I have a 2016 model and get warning status turn lights on when they are on and trailer brakes appears to be working ok.

Expert Reply:
Some trailer brake controllers, including many factory-installed models, will not work with an electric-over-hydraulic type trailer brake actuator like the Hydrastar # HBA16. EOH actuators like this present a very different electrical load to the brake circuit than a typical electric drum brake and some brake controllers simply won't work. Others can be made to work with an electrical adapter like # HBA-CAM.
You will want to confirm that the controller you are using has an EOH setting and that this mode of operation is selected from its main menu.
