Should the Trailer Suspension Rear Hanger be Closer or Farther From the Axle than Rear Spring Eye

Question:

The bolt hole on the rear hanger is off center by about 1/4, old one was same but I didnt notice which way it was installed. Should the hanger be installed with the hole closer to the front of trailer or closer to the rear?

The rear hanger should be slightly closer to the axle (forward) of the trailer. If you look at the drawing on the product page for Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs, # APS1, you will see the rear hanger is more forward than the center of the rear eye of the spring. The shackle, then, is at a slight angle with the top more forward than the bottom.

I have included a link to our double-eye trailer suspension FAQ article that contains a lot of good information on trailer suspension.
