Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram 2500 with Factory 5th Wheel Prep Package Removal from Bed
Question:
Once the Demco 18,000# Autoslide hitch and adapter are installed in my truck bed for towing, when I wish to remove everything from my truck bed, does the entire hitch and adapter assembly come out as one piece, or are there pins that allow the hitch to separate from the adapter, thereby making the pieces lighter? If it has to come out as one bolted together assembly, how much does the 18,000 hitch and adapter weigh?

The Demco Hijacker AutoSlide part # DM8550034 is a great hitch for your 2017 Ram 2500 short bed with the factory rail kit. It does require the adapter part # DM6099 to be used like you referenced.
The hitch as a total is pretty heavy at 273 lbs but it can be taken apart to make it easier. The head assembly of the hitch is held on with one large pin.
