Recommended Trailer Wiring For 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Without Factory Tow Package

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that did not come with a factory tow package. I could not find a wiring harness that did not require a factory tow pkg. I would like to know if the harness for the 2012 model can be used on my 2014. Thanks

The best recommendation I can make for your 2014 Grand Cherokee is to install part # 74682. Even without the factory tow package the wiring is on the vehicle to plug the # 74682 into. I also recommend a bracket like part # C57202 that can be used to hold the trailer connector and is secured to the trailer hitch with a hose clamp.

You will then need to take the vehicle to your Jeep dealership and have them flash the computer to turn the tow package on. This would be the cleanest way to get a trailer connector on your Jeep.

You can bypass the process by installing a hard-wire kit like part # 118727 first and then install part # 37185 for the 7-way trailer connector. Since you would be splicing into the vehicle wiring you would not have to take the vehicle in to have the package turned on.

In my opinion, I think the # 74682 and having the dealership turn the package on is the way to go.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
