Recommended Weight Distribution for a 2006 Ford F-150 towing a 2017 Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup

Question:

I have a 2006 Ford F150 Supercrew 1/2 ton towing a 2017 Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup 16BHS. I know I dont need a weight dist. hitch w/sway control, but would like to get one anyway. What size hitch do you recommend? Thanks!

Ideally when picking out a Weight Distribution (WD) system you will want to pick one out that has a Tongue Weight capacity where your trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight falls in the middle. I've found the best hitch for your 2006 Ford F-150 to pull your 2017 Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup.

When I looked up your Wolf Pup it looked like the Unloaded Weight is about 3,000 lbs but it has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of about 3,900 lbs. Since your loaded and ready to tow tongue weight should be 10-15 percent of your trailer's loaded weight that gives us a range of 300 lbs to 580 lbs. The Reese Strait-Line WD system with Sway Control, part # RP66082, can handle a tongue weight range of 200 lbs to 600 lbs. As long as your trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight, which includes the weight of any cargo carried behind your F-150's rear axle, comes in at less than 600 lbs this system will work well for you.

If, however, you will be loading your trailer and/or the bed of your F-150 so that it is on the heavier side you will want to use the Reese Strait-Line # RP66073 since it has a weight range of 400 lbs to 800 lbs.

I have linked one of our helpful articles that talks about how to find your trailer tongue weight.
