Will Galvanized Bunk Rollers Rust if Always Submerged in Water

Question:

I am looking to build a permanent shoreline fresh water ramp. A portion of the roller bunks will remain in the water year round. Will the roller bunks remain usable over time or will corrosion make them inoperable?

The CE Smith Roller Bunks # CE27700 are made with galvanized steel which is designed to resist rust. However, it's not 100 percent rust-proof. Over exposure to water, like keeping them submerged all the time, will speed up the process. It's impossible to say how long they'll last but the short answer is yes, they will eventually rust.

One suggestion to prolong this is to build the dock in sections so that you can switch the parts that are submerged periodically. This way the parts under water will be changed out and not submerged for their entire life span. You will still eventually get rust but this process will delay it.
