How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox
Question:

I do have a solution for you, but from the information that I could gather, it does not look like the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox has a built-in harness that you directly plug your brake controller into. Typically on any vehicle it would be in plain sight under the dash on the driver's side.
To install a brake controller on your Equinox you will need to use the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit does require you to do some splicing, but it will get you the connections that you are needing.
You might need some wiring to give your Equinox a 4-Way if you don't already have one. You can either use this part # 118264 if you have the factory tow package, and you can use part # 118494 if you do not have the factory tow package already.
We have never had to remove this panel, so we do not have the specific information on how to remove it.
I have included some demonstration videos and a helpful article for you as well.
