Installing a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller on 1988 Chevy G20

Question:

Hi, Could you possibly help me out with a diagram of how to install a tekonsha p3 into a 1988 Chevy G20 passenger van? I bought it used and it has been fitted for a Dodge truck. Thanks

Before you can install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195, you will need to make sure that you have a trailer connection installed on your 1988 Chevrolet G20 van.

You will need a trailer 4-way flat connection installed on your van. If you do not have a 4-way installed, then you will need the Curt T-One Wiring Harness, # C55338. The wiring harness will connect to your vehicle's wiring by plugging into existing plug in the harness. No cutting or splicing of the your vans factory wiring.

Next, you will need to have a 7-way trailer connection installed. I recommend using wiring kit # ETBC7. The kit will include the 7-way connector, wiring, and hardware needed to wire the brake controller to the trailer connector and to the your van.

The kit will allow you to connect to the wiring plug that attaches to the back of the brake of the controller. The BLACK wire is your 12-volt power that will need to be wired to your battery and the included circuit breakers ins # ETBC7 kit. The BLUE wire will connect the brake controller to the 7-way connector that will send the signal to your electric trailer brakes. The RED wire connects to the brake pedal switch and the WHITE wire is your ground. If you do not have the pig tail that connects to your Prodigy P3, then you will need # 20127.

I have linked a installation video of the # ETBC7 kit for you to review. Unfortunately, we do not have a video of your year vehicle, but installation on the kit is pretty standard over the years. I have also linked an article on the installing a brake controller from scratch and on other articles on installing brake controllers. I have linked a photo of a typical wiring of a brake controller using the # ETBC7 kit.
