Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum with Adaptive Cruise Control

Question:

Hi, I have a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum with adaptive cruise control that I need to set-up as a toad. I will move the SMI Air Force One from my old toad to the Explorer. I have a Blue Ox tow bar. What will I need and what are the options to set-up the explorer base plate, brake lights, battery disconnect or charge line, etc?

The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX2668 is what you'll need for your 2016 Ford Explorer with Adaptive Cruise Control.

To power the Explorer's lights you can use the diode kit # RM-15267. You'll also need a stop light switch # RM-751000. This will send a signal to notify you in the cab of your motorhome that the Air Force One is working correctly. It's required because the Explorer's brake lights do not engage when the vehicle is off.

You'll also need to disconnect the battery to keep it from draining. The Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 will make this easier by flipping a switch.

Finally, you'll likely need a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop your setup requires.

In addition to my recommendations I've linked some articles on flat towing that you may find helpful.
