Recommendation on Switching from Electric Brakes to Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
Question:
Hi, I recently purchased a used equipment trailer that had electric brakes that are history! I was thinking about going hydraulic can I keep existing drums and simply convert with your hyd. actuator and free backing brake assy? They are mobile home axles and on the hub on one of the axles is 35507 and 12" hub.

Mobile home axles were designed as a one time use axle. The spindle of these axles are usually come in odd sizes, making it them incompatible with standard trailer hubs and parts. If any of these part need replacing, then the standard trailer hubs and parts will not work and then you may have to change your axles.
However, if you are going to reuse your wheel hubs and if you have a 5 bolt brake flanges on the axles, then we might be able to find the parts needed to convert over to hydraulic brakes.
For brake assemblies, I like the etrailer Hydraulic Trailer Brake Free Backing, # AKFBBRK-7R and # AKFBBRK- 7L. These are the brake assemblies for both left and right sides of the axle.
The Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator, # DM72VR, will work on a 3 inch trailer tongue channel. The surge brake actuator will fit a 2 inch trailer ball and zinc plated for corrosion resistance.
You will also need brake lines and hoses. Demco has brake line and hose kits that will fit single and tandem axle set-ups. The single axle kit is # DM5426 and the tandem axle kit is # DM5428
I have linked an article that explains what you need to change over your electric brakes to electric over hydraulic brakes for you to review.
