Question:
Is a 20 amp CB adequate for providing 12 power to your wireless brake controller kit?

The Curt Echo # C51180 needs a 40 amp circuit breaker, part # 9510, to provide 12 volts to the 7-way trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle. You also may need 10 gauge wire, part # 10-1-1, which is sold by the foot.
If you already have a 4-way trailer connector and not a 7-way, you can use the install kit # ETBC7 which provides you with the 7-way, wiring, and circuit breakers needed to to power your trailer's brakes. If you don't have the 4-way connector yet, the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT is confirmed to fit your 2008 BMW X5.
