Will A Non-Threaded Locking Pin Work With Bike Rack And Hitch Cover?

Question:

I recently purchased and installed a DrawTite Class III 2 trailer hitch from etrailer.com item 75235. I also purchased a Saris hitch mounted bike rack item SA4412B. I did NOT purchase the lock or Hitch lock for the Saris rack. However, I do wanrt to purchase a Hitch lock to protect the rack and possibly a hitch cover. My question is this: The bike rack is designed to be used with a threaded pin, but your Hitch cover item AMG100284 is not. Would a non-threaded lock for example item 40107 work with both the Saris bike rack item SA4412B and the UofM Hitch Cover item AMG100284? Thanks!

As a Wolverine fan myself, I must commend your taste in a hitch cover! The Michigan Chrome Logo Emblem 2" Hitch Cover as well as your Saris bike rack will work with a locking pin like the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - Stainless Steel Flush Design for 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver, # e98882, you mentioned. However, using a regular pin or a locking pin that isn't threaded will allow movement in your bike rack and hitch which can give you a clanking noise. You may want to consider a threaded locking hitch pin like the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span, # 63232. This will allow you to use the block and spring in your emblem hitch cover and the threaded locking pin in both units to secure both to your hitch and have a quieter ride.
