Which Pin on a 7-Way Trailer Connector Can be Used to Charge a Trailer Battery
Question:
I have an 01 ram 1500 w/tow pkg. I need to get the power wire for the trailer charge circuit up and running. Do I just need to add a relay somewhere or will I have to pull a wire.

You should be using the pin in the 1 o'clock position (if looking at the vehicle side 7-Way). This pin is the 12-volt battery output to the trailer. You will need to make sure that the trailer side connector pin for the matching location (11 oclock position if looking at the face of the connector) goes to the trailer battery.
You can test the vehicle side 7-Way buy using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 and testing the pin. If you get voltage, then the wire is connected properly, and you will not have to make any changes to the vehicle side. If it does not show voltage, you may need to insert a fuse and/or check that the wire is connected to a power source by tracing the wire back. You can check the owner's manual and/or the power distribution box for the location of any fuses or relays related to the 7-Way.
I have included a link to our wiring FAQ article that explains the various trailer connectors on both the vehicle side and the trailer side.
